Our History and Roots

Our history goes back to 1948 where the founder of Alkim, Mr. Vedat Kora started the production of sodium sulfate at a chemical lake in Afyon Turkey as a sole proprietor.

Mr. Kora’s family moved to Turkey from Eastern Europe just before the Balkan Wars preceding the collapse of the Ottoman Empire so the family had almost no assets and Mr. Kora and his brother attended the free, government-run boarding school offered to students who can not afford a regular school and became a senior chemical engineer.

During family travels, Mr. Kora noticed a chemical lake that intrigued him so he quit his well-paying prestigious job and started a venture despite having no financial security. Business progressed well over the years and Mr. Kora had many plans for Alkim but fate brought death and he lost his life in an aviation accident during a business travel in 1975.

Alkim was then managed his brother for thirty years who safeguarded the business and further grew it by establishing a paper plant. Vedat Kora’s eldest son became active in the management in 1980, made major contributions that advanced the company from a local business into a regional-international company and he became the Chairman in 2005.

Kora Holding was founded in 2013 with an aim to create high-added-value investments. Our first activity was the establishment of a professional team of traders and we considered multiple opportunities such as high-frequency trading in Turkey but decided to focus on US equities. Right now we trade in the US and work on our AI platform.

Our second project was the New York based startup SuperCareer.com / SuperCv.com between 2014-2017 and was indefinitely paused because of escalating project costs despite the product being functional as targeted. The concept was to measure talent online through proprietary assessments that also created bias-free scientific, online ranking and matching systems. This enterprise has brought very valuable experience in terms of creating and managing a startup.
