Alkim is one of the leading sodium sulfate producers in the world. This is an organic industrial raw material used in textiles, pulp, glass industries but most often in the detergent industry.
Alkim has unique mining experience in liquid and underground mining of sodium sulfate. Until 2010 Alkim was engaged in liquid mining only. The process is as follows: Massive artificial ponds are built next to the chemical lakes where the chemical brine is taken into these ponds and then crystallization takes place during the winter’s cold. The crystallized pre-product called glauber salt is then turned into an industrial raw material, Refined Sodium Sulfate. The product does not undergo chemical transformation except removal of moisture but only physical therefore Alkim is not subject to Reach regulations.
In the 1990s Alkim won the sole mining tender in Ankara, an underground sodium sulfate mine that has a proven reserve of 500 million tons. There were no feasible mining techniques to extract the mine so a thorough R&D was conducted for ten years and finally a new Alkim patented technique that involves part gallery-mining and solution-mining was established. Alkim then started underground mining operations followed by the first plant in 2011 and the second in 2018.
2021 will bring the introduction of potassium sulfate and this will have very positive consequences for Alkim. All fertilizers are complex salts and fall into three categories also expressed by the NPK abbreviation where.
N stands for Nitrogen P for Phosphorus K for Potash
Alkim’s SOP is a mineral-based organic industrial fertilizer that is mined, processed and sold as an environmentally friendly and safe product. K (potash) group of fertilizers are mostly devoid of N (nitrogen) and Alkim’s SOP contains no inorganic N components such as nitrate or ammonia so it poses no chemical or explosive danger. We are proud that our super-premium grade Potassium Sulfate with a maximum of %0,5 chlorine content is a nature-friendly fertilizer that does not harm the soil unlike the commonly used Potassium Chloride.
